Let’s get our Inspector Gadget on and investigate the rules we have been following that weren’t meant for us. Key Learnings from “Your Relationship with YOU: How to Live Life by Your Rules” will guide you toward discovering what rules it may be time to let go of and start writing your own.
Examining rules is a personal process of reflection, being curious and open to possibility. In order to write new rules to live by, you must be aware and examine the rules in place that are causing distress or turmoil. Once you have identified an area in which you would like to create change, identify the rules that shaped this area.
We are all shaped by family-of-origin rules and expectations. Beyond family, our cultural norms, life experiences even gender and career aspirations shape the rules we follow. Not every rule we have been following works for us in the present day. We all have at least one area of life that did not turn out as planned. Examining the rules and expectations we have been following offers insight into where we can create new rules and get unstuck.
